neb

1) The beak or bill of a bird.

It was customary in the past for swans to be marked, and the practice is commented on by Henry Best: 1642 the kings swanner hayth all the markes, both nebbe-markes and foot-markes, sette downe in his book

Our marke is 3 holes boared with an hotte-swipple in the right side of the nebbe, Elmswell. It is still in regular use, especially for a person's nose or the peak of a cap.
