coal-man

1) A word used for a man who had to do with coal, possibly as a landowner.

In 1659 Mr Richard Horsfall, coal man, enjoyed the status of ‘gentleman’ and lived at Storthes Hall in Thurstonland. He was indicted at the manor court ‘for not filling in his coal pits’.
