1390 lego et do eidem Johannć unam navem vocatam Farcost, Hornsea Beck. The OED has one reference from 1284 and Peter Heath noted that in the 1430s a high proportion of Scarborough fishermen were using farcostć. He concluded that it was a vessel larger than a coble.
