1528 a gret parte of the seid Corne was sore chawssed, Foyst and nott swette savoured nor goode, Hull. As a verb it meant to turn fusty: 1642 Newe-threshed corne is allwayes the sweetest, for it will foist with lyinge longe in the Garner, Elmswell.
