First noted in the OED in 1688, it was not uncommon in Yorkshire records: 1560 iij frettes of Iron, Eccup

1613 a harrow, freat & a tugwythye of iron, Cottingley

1619 4 old stroakers [sic], 3 fretts, one runner, Bingley

1639 Fower wheele freats, Swinsty.
