1) Final ‘th’ was regularly not pronounced in some dialects, notably in a suffix such as ‘forth’, so ‘garr’ was a characteristic regional spelling of ‘garth’.

1591 ‘a messuage, and houses, orchards, garres and gardens’, Pannal. The minor place-name Garrs End was the Garthe ende in 1611.
