1) Uncertain meaning, possible moist undrained land.

A word commented on by Canon Atkinson who considered that it might refer to moist, undrained land, although he conceded that the meaning was not absolutely certain: 1674-5 a little close or parcel of meadow and hoovy ground called the Calf-close, Aysgarth.
