poked

One reference noted: 1615 An ould cow ... She calved shortly after and dyed 6 wekes after being poaked, Brandsby. This meaning is not certain but since the writer had ‘poad’ for pod the word may be pocked. This was used of diseased sheep and Wright has ‘poked’ as an alternative.
