bark sack

1) A sack used for storing or transporting bark.

In 1699, a Kirkheaton tanner called Richard Northrop hade a Barke Sack taken from the Barke House by Alice Binns. The detailed depositions in the case suggest that the offence was viewed seriously and that the sack may have been distinctive: Alice was offered 7d for it by a man called Thomas Holdsworth, and Richard Northrop’s servant was able to confirm that it belonged to his master.
