bowsaw

1) A tool used for cutting a mark (usually a shield) into the scale of a haft, using a bow and a ‘parser’ with a hard metal cutting edge.

The Sheffield cutler, Samuell Bothomley had one bosaw in his Smithy Chamber in 1702. The technique can still be observed in the market place in Marrakesh.
