1) A small wheel coated with emery and used by cutlers for polishing, to smooth out dents after grinding.

In 1709, the Sheffield cutler Joseph Webster had A pair of bags Emory and Rozin valued at 5s 6d: in 1717, John Burnitt had one Emory plate, and in 1722, Robert Tickill of Bridgehouses had one Vice and an emery plate. When the works at Whiteley Wood were insured in 1783 the buildings and stock included a saw grinding wheel, an emery mill, a hardening room.
