mothersoul

1) The soul of the individual's mother - the spelling is indicative of his Yorkshire origins.

In the will of John Robinson, parson of the church of Fawkham in Kent, made in 1516, we read: I will that a prest shall synge for my fader soule, my moder soule and for all Cristen soules ... within the churche of Elvington in Yorkshire. The omission of the genitive ā€˜sā€™ is an indication of his Yorkshire origins, and his words are a link with two early northern by-names: n.d. land once held by Ralph Fadersaule, Howdenshire

1313 Ralph Modersoule.
