1) A division of land, possibly the breadth of a 'wand' or perch.

The OED has evidence in Yorkshire from c.1150 to 1642. An extract from an Elizabethan terrier has: 1590 Item 1 East Wandale, with measurement, followed by Item 4 wands in the south ing meddo 18 fout by ancient mesur to evre wand bred linge north and south utmost eastward to Painstrop nex the outside of the meddo same 4 wands, with measurement, Kirby Underdale.
