make-blithe

1) Make glad, friendly, happy.

The OED has ‘make-strife’ and ‘make-mirth’ from the seventeenth century but by-names suggest that it was a frequent type of formation from much earlier: 1301 De Ricardo Makejoye, Whitby

De Richedon Makedance, Allerston

1324 Robertus de [sic] Makeblith, York

1379 Ralph Makblyth, Dringhouses. Earlier examples of this type are Machefare in 1176 and Makejoie in 1221.
