mammal

1) A woman.

An early reference to this word, used by Francis Ianson in his will in 1748. He died childless but made cash bequests to the seven children of his brother William saying that if any die he wanted the money to be distributed among the survivors be they Males or Mamels, Addingham. ‘Mamels’ clearly referred to William’s four daughters.
