There were local differences, and in 1684 Black Carr Wood in Tong was estimated at 36 acres alloweing sixe yards to the pearche. The woods could not be exactly measured until they shalbe sprung … and cleansed. The Coucher Book of Furness has an even earlier local example: 1200-26 et campis de Hetoun mensuratas per perticam de Wyntirburne.
